ABOUT THE ROLE

The primary responsibility of the Director, RD&E Home Storage – Core Bags North America and Site Director is to provide a vision, strategy and enable the execution of growth programs for Ziploc Core Bags, while also providing RD&E site leadership at our Bay City RD&E Center.

  • This position is expected to lead & manage highly capable, curious, and engaged technical professionals, as well as develop bench strength for the future.
  • This business leader is responsible for driving North America goals of Net Sales, Share, and Delivered Profit Margin through flawless execution of projects/programs.
  • Strong collaboration and ability to influence leaders including Marketing, Supply Chain and Finance is essential.
  • The role requires using the latest science, technology, and industry knowledge, while ensuring the team is applying standards and knowledge with urgency and robustness.
  • Build, develop, and execute plan for Ziploc pilot plant of the future based on Ziploc’s long term growth strategies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with key business partners to create winning growth initiative plans, as well as delivery against aligned cost savings and profitability goals.
  • Ability to understand & integrate technical information into business decisions.  Take prompt action to accomplish goals; proactively attempt to influence events rather than passively accept outcomes.
  • Leverage strong business, technical, market, and category acumen to optimize business results; deliver commitments within functional budget management.
  • Understand key Category and Consumer Choice Drivers and apply appropriately to maintain and enhance the product consumer relevance and value.  Ensures project objectives and execution are aligned to those key consumer elements.
  • Execute aligned cadence of programs for core bags portfolio End-to-End, from consumer insight to product development, to commercialization and delivery to our customers.
  • Drive alignment and enrollment to a course of action among key cross-functional peers in Marketing, Supply Chain and Finance.
  • Build an engaged team and create an environment that ensures the flawless technical execution/delivery to market of projects within assigned portfolio.
  • Build and develop strong partnerships internally and externally to deliver a robust pipeline of growth and cost improvement projects.
  • Ensure culture of safety, continuous improvement, and focus on the future for the Ziploc pilot plant.
  • Demonstrate behaviors that reflect SCJ Success Drivers and establish a “Mindset to Win” Culture across the regional team, always showing a can-do attitude.
  • Attract, retain, and develop talent while fostering a performance-driven culture.  Support the development of those in reporting organization through coaching, training, and performance management practices, including conducting annual performance reviews and management succession and development activities.
  • Demonstrate strong R&D functional skills, including effective communication, financial acumen, integrated risk management, project management, quality, and robustness, regulation & safety, scientific rigor, and technical curiosity

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering
  • 10+ years of related experience, with demonstrated experience of leading managers and staff to achieve business results.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Advanced degree in Science or Engineering.
  • Experience in Consumer-Packaged Goods (CPG) and/or Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry.
  • Experience of successfully leading complex and interdependent project teams.
  • Proven track record in delivery of commitments with significant impact to key business metrics (growth, share, margin improvement).
  • Clear & concise communication skills with the ability to orchestrate effective meetings and written materials prompting the appropriate discussions and accountability that will harness technical capability across SCJ.
  • Proven ability to lead/manage and influence leaders across functions and management levels to drive cultural and process changes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in coaching and mentoring teams and individuals.
  • Able to develop strategic plans for long term value improvement while also possessing ability to Drive for Results in short term.
  • Experience in applying deep, technical knowledge, business context and competitive set information to drive robust project execution decisions.
