The Associate Manager, eCommerce Shopper Insights is responsible for serving as a subject matter expert for the online shopper and business partner for shopper insights to the eCommerce sales team. This position reports to the Manager, Shopper Insights. Key workstreams include leading design & execution of channel-focused shopper research and partnering with customer & activation teams to roll out strategies that drive online conversion. This role is expected to work closely with the Category Management Center of Excellence team, as well as the retailer and channel focused Category & Shopper Leadership team (aka the “field team”). In addition, this role is highly cross-functional and will interact regularly with eCommerce roles in Omnicommerce, Consumer Insights & Business Analytics, Customer Marketing, Brand, and Global eCommerce Marketing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Critical member of the Chicago-based Shopper Insights team:
Serve as subject matter expert for the online shopper for the broader team, across SCJ retailers and categories
Be a business partner to the eCommerce sales team by translating business needs/priorities into relevant shopper insights and conversion strategies
Develop and advance a multidimensional understanding of shoppers and online dynamics including integrating customer and syndicated data to provide strategic consultation to the Sales and Business teams
Lead design & execution of national shopper research and partner with customer teams to activate, roll out strategies to drive online conversion
Will manage at least one key research vendor partnership or subscription
Will champion and become fluent in SCJ Shopper Toolbox.
Additionally, will give particular focus to a select number of customer or channel specific teams:
Works with “field team” to develop understanding of class of trade & retailer-specific shopper profiles, needs & behaviors online to craft strategies to drive conversion
Manage all primary & secondary research for those account teams which support and attain retailer and SCJ business objectives
Play an active role in customer presentations and influence retailers based on a deep understanding of the class of trade-specific category and shopper behaviors to drive company product sales and category growth
Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:
University Degree and 5+ years of relevant experience or advanced degree and 3+ years relevant experience
Must be authorized to work in the US
Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:
Education and Experience
Master’s degree preferred
Experience in Shopper Insights and/or Retailer-specific Insights OR equitable Consumer Insights experience
Experience working with top US retailers on design and delivery of customer research highly desired
Technical Skills
Experience working with third party data suppliers to scope and manage project work
Ability to translate data into compelling stories for customers
Ability to define root cause factors from data, experience, and judgement
Passion and curiosity for understanding and using human/shopper behavior to craft solutions
Advanced skills in syndicated data tools, Microsoft Office suite
Experience with retailer specific data tools (POS, Retailer Loyalty Card data, etc)
Experience with both primary and secondary research tools to understand shopper needs and behaviors
Experience with data visualization software (Tableau, Power BI, etc)
Experience with online digital shelf tools (Profitero, SimilarWeb, CommerceIQ, etc)
Leadership Skills
Comfort in dealing with ambiguity and ability to work in a self-directed environment
Cross-functional team partnership
Strong presentation and influencing skills
High sense of urgency
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to adjust to different needs/priorities when leading research for accounts at various levels of eCommerce maturity
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
5-15% travel, to present at key customer meetings
Remote work is available once a week for eligible employees
