Manager, Customer Marketing

The Customer Marketing Manager contributes to the development of channel strategies and is responsible for translating the business unit strategies and national DMPP strategies into channel plans and tactics for assigned channels, categories, brands, and new items. They contribute to the development of the national external sales narrative and internal sales materials (packet) and supports the sales organization in the customization and deployment of national materials aligned to the retailer strategies and problems to solve. They lead robust projects for assigned strategic customers; gathering and translating the consumer, shopper and retailer insights to identify the problem to solve in coordination with sales leadership, creating the big idea with agency partners, and collaborating with the CS&L, Omni-shopper, Media and Promotion team to build and execute the customer tactical plan which serves the Omnichannel shopper.

They serve as the key sales contact for field sales and internal cross-functional departments to identify and drive growth initiatives for assigned channels. They gather and assimilate field and internal information to fuel and lead the execution of channel strategies.  Recommendations and directions are provided to the following functional groups: sales management, marketing, market research, promotions, product supply, customer service, and forecasting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Sales Contact for Assigned Categories, Brands, and New Items:

  • Interact and work with Marketing Commercialization Managers, ABMs, and cross-functional teams to deliver divisional business objectives.
  • Support key field business teams with business planning, brand interaction, and top to top meetings.
  • Participate in sales account business planning process to develop optimized plan which will drive key objectives and maximize trade participation, acceptance and performance.
  • Participate in customer calls to provide support to the field, provide national perspective and gain insights to use in strategic and tactical planning.
  • Develop selling material and point of sale materials that are consistent with Sales and Marketing objectives and gain the desired results from the trade.
  • Serve as the Sales Division’s representative on the new products task force categories assigned and provide input and direction (ideation to commercialization) to the Director of Customer Marketing as necessary
  • Development and communication of Sales strategies, tactics and business planning material
  • Support Director of Customer Marketing in strategic planning for business unit.

Develop Strategies:

  • Collect, assess, and analyze field / internal information to provide business solutions for growth
  • Provide recommendations to sales management and brand management on appropriate direction for sales execution of DMPP strategies, tactics, and goals.
  • Develop presentations, sales aids, and promotional material:
  • Base business and new items
  • Special packs and programs
  • Manage all field sales communication.
  • Disseminate competitive intelligence.

High-Quality Communication:

  • Manage team communications to ensure delivery of clear, concise, actionable divisional priority information.
  • Drive consistency between business units to deliver transparent communication to the sales force.

Execute Special Pack process:

  • Implement design briefs
  • Sales force estimates and bottom-up forecasting
  • Weekly sell-through of non-allocated special packs
  • Inventory management

Decision-Making Responsibility:

  • Development of Sales presentation materials
  • Recommendations for DMPP strategies for assigned channels
  • Management of special packs and allocations
  • Divisional / segment forecasts
  • Development of business strategy, tactics and recommendations to proactively drive the business
  • Management of field sales communications for their respective Divisions
  • Incremental funding request recommendations

Strategic Impact:

  • Inputs to New item and base refresh process
  • Assists in the business planning process for key customers and execution of ICP sessions
  • Communication of Divisional sales strategies

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant business experience

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

Technical Skills:

  • Marketing Commercialization Manager, Associate Brand Manager with retailer facing experience, Major Account Business Manager, Account Business Manager, or CATS Manager experience.

Exceptional computer skills:

  • Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • SCJ Data Tools (NADW, PlanIt TCM, Nielsen)
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize.
