THE ROLE

Based in Chicago (with the option to split work time in the SCJ Racine offices), the Brand Manager, SCJ New Ventures DTC COE will be responsible for setting strategy and owning the P&L for Caldrea, a lifestyle home care brand.  Caldrea is a small, premium, primarily DTC business in a high growth space.  As a part of the SCJ NV mission, we are interested in exploring growth opportunities for this brand with new consumers, in new channels and with new marketing approaches.  This role offers an opportunity to blaze a path to growth with new and creative approaches.

In this position you’ll function as a GM for the Caldrea brand and will work cross functionally with internal and external partners in product development, supply chain and commercialization to drive business results.  The successful candidate excels in both general management and brand marketing skill sets and will be equally comfortable charting a future course for the brand and managing day to day commercialization details to keep the business running smoothly.


In addition to the core responsibilities for managing the Caldrea brand, the DTC COE Brand Manager will work with the DTC COE Executive Director to provide strategic brand development support to businesses across the SCJ NV portfolio.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY


The DTC COE Brand Manager will:

  • Operate as GM and brand lead for the Caldrea business, setting the strategic direction for the brand and portfolio and managing all aspects of operations and commercialization
  • Effectively manage the Caldrea P&L to deliver business objectives. Work with finance partners to track key business metrics and modify spending and operations plans as required to meet P&L commitments  
  • Lead commercialization efforts across a variety of consumer touch points including product, communications, and the Caldrea DTC website and with retail e-commerce and brick and mortar partners
  • Act as Brand management lead for the product innovation process.  Provide product development team with consumer, category, and retailer insights that will shape innovation priorities.  Also own SKU rationalization decision and exit plans as appropriate
  • Manage 3P partners and work with product development team to partner with suppliers to meet the operational needs of the business
  • Work with brand and media agencies at the appropriate scale to drive growth for the brand
  • Partner with sales team members to create compelling retailer selling stories for the brand and innovation. Develop sell in narratives designed to allow Caldrea to break into new channels as strategy dictates
  • Lead the S&OP process. Provide insights on demand drivers that will impact supply needs and partner with Supply Planning to ensure production and supply management efficiently meets the needs of each channel
  • Allocate time to develop skills as a subject matter expert in strategies and tools to effectively build a DTC-focused omni-channel brand.  Use this knowledge to support growth goals of Caldrea and other brands within the SCJ NV portfolio
  • Assist SCJ NV portfolio companies in building effective marketing support plans by acting as a consultant and support resources on a project basis

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of experience in marketing/brand management at a consumer products company
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience working with brands with a DTC presence and/or strong reliance on eCommerce as a sales channel
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MBA
  • Experience working on a lifestyle-influenced and/or fragrance-led brand
  • Strong initiative and demonstrated leadership across functions and levels
  • High comfort in working largely autonomously
  • Bias towards working with a fast pace and comfortable managing multiple project/deadlines simultaneously
  • Trusted and respected cross-functional leader and project manager with a track record of delivering initiatives on time and on budget
  • Strong strategic instinct and ability to develop strategic narratives that gain buy-in at all levels
  • Leads with an analytical mindset and a high attention to detail
  • High degree of curiosity and initiative to leverage resources such as industry publications, professional network, and industry expert consultations to glean insights that can help propel our SCJ NV businesses forward
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to take calculated risk
  • Outstanding written communication skills and ability to leverage written communication as needed to drive alignment and progress initiatives forward
  • Highly articulate and persuasive communication style – ability to build confidence with leaders at all levels inside and outside of SC Johnson
