Principal, Toxicology

The Principal, Toxicology role is responsible for ensuring the company’s pest control products are safe to use by our consumers as required by prescribed regulatory standards and internal corporate requirements.

The primary roles of this position are (1) to lead and conduct product safety assessments for the company’s global portfolio of pest control products, (2) to ensure that the company effectively and expediently identifies and manages changing scientific information, regulatory requirements, and customer demands related to product safety of such product types, (3) to provide technical leadership related to the prioritization and support of critical emerging regulatory or scientific issues that carry potential to impact the business, and (4) to drive relevant technical matters important to the company with key external opinion leaders and stakeholders.

The role is responsible for interfacing with colleagues across globe to support various project teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver product fit-for-purpose risk assessments for human health and safety in support of our global business categories – specifically for the pest control portfolio.
  • Deliver product safety reviews for formulas, raw materials, and human testing in accordance with established procedures and ensure timelines are met.
  • Work constructively and proactively to resolve complex scientific issues through collaborative problem solving with other regulatory & product safety stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of technical solutions for pest control products, & options to mitigate potential risks, to RD&E Project Teams and where appropriate escalate.
  • Ensure necessary product safety data requirements are available and communicated to internal project management group.
  • Advance the department’s scientific and business capabilities through the introduction of new scientific methods and approaches to assessing safety and risk.
  • Lead trade association activities and other industry-led working groups to advance safety and toxicology principles to support product registration activities.
  • Coach and mentor other technical staff across the organization.
  • Provide technical support to marketing, legal and supply chain as requested.

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Doctorate Degree in Toxicology (or closely related field) with a minimum of 7 years of direct/relevant experience in Product Safety, Toxicology or related field with relevant experience in the regulated pesticide industry
  • Qualified candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Ability to lead complex projects and distill technical challenges into practical solutions & actions in a clear and articulate fashion to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within and across functional/department lines.
  • Experience in forging strong relationships with governmental and industry partners outside of the company
  • Working knowledge of global safety and regulatory policies, procedures and processes
  • Skills to work cohesively & constructively as a member of the Global Product Safety Leadership Team to set departmental strategy and develop work plans
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
