JOB REQUIREMENTS:

The most important tasks and responsibilities in this position are:

  • Qualification & commercial deployment of products within EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa)
  • Working focused on one product category with a backup secondary product category
  • Partnering with Regional Technical Functions as well as Global Innovation Centers (US and China)
  • Defining packaging components and manufacturing instructions by executing required trials
  • Supporting varied manufacturing base (100+ internal SCJ factories & third-party manufacturers)
  • Ensuring product compliance with external legislation/directives and SCJ’s corporate standards
  • Work together with other colleagues in the center of excellence packaging department, Cat RDE, Engineering, Quality
  • Ability to react with urgency/pressure when Force Majeure projects impact business continuity
  • Act swiftly to drive recovery when risks make potential impact to project delivery, providing alternate course of action to ensure to deliver original commitments
  • Identify and work on cost saving opportunities
  • Ability to handle and manage project tasks for projects up to low - medium complexity; 1-2 clusters, uoto 4 product formats

In case the organization requires, it could be that the following tasks and/or projects will become the temporary responsibility of the employee

  • Temporary manage activities from the sr. associate packaging engineer in case of need
  • Work on improvement initiatives within packaging team

Functional Expertise

  • Design & implementation of paper-based packaging (unit boxes, labels, corrugated cases.)
  • Define and create the specifications, functional attributes, and bill of materials (BOM) for packaging/ product
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and quality to execute product specifications
  • Qualify alternate existing packaging or new paper-based packaging by working with platform team to define validation test plans & executing them
  • Execute key packaging test methods to validate product design (e.g., formula interaction)
  • Deliver Product Validation (PPV) and Product Line Qualification (PLQ)
  • Ensure good quality shipment by applying distribution test protocols and industry methods to withstand regional supply chain environment and to meet consumer expectations
  • Optimize pallet configurations using palletization software (e.g., CAPE) and principles of a perfect pallet
  • Consider environmental impact through selection of materials and package design (e.g., inclusion of PCR, waste)
  • Consider cost impact during selection of materials and components

Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or science - Industrial Design, Packaging, Materials
  • 0 to 3 years’ job experience/internship as packaging engineer, component design, materials or equivalent
  • Ability to participate in multiple running projects and deliver packaging related tasks
  • Exhibits good communication, prioritizing and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to recall others’ main points, taking them into account in own communication
  • Ability to elicit comments or feedbacks on what has been said
  • Ability to maintain continuous, open, and consistent communication with others
  • Decision maker for problems up to a low/medium grade of complexity
  • Ability to handle and manage projects up to low - medium complexity
  • Shows Integrity and Reliability, personal ownership and team player
  • High proficiency in English, both written and oral
  • International experience and exposure a plus

Knowledge and competencies

  • Plans own work and components of projects according to predetermined standards
  • Understand project goals, own and participants’ roles, and the importance of project management principles, such as time, cost and quality management
