Associate Manager, Safety, Health & Environment

The role of the Associate Manager, Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) supports the Global Research Development & Engineering group by developing and deploying global enterprise wide SHE strategies, policies, standards, metrics, leading practices, and tools designed to:

  • Reduce injuries and incidents during RD&E activities at SC Johnson’s sites

  • Ensure that RD&E activities are conducted in a safe and environmentally sound fashion

  • Ensure compliance of RD&E with SHE regulations and requirements

  • Deliver the enterprise-wide goals and objectives related to RD&E safety 

This role manages and oversees the safety of SCJ RD&E activities by developing and deploying policies, standards, and procedures in these areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance and support to research, development and engineering in the area of health, & environment

  • Ensure smooth and safe implementation of global RD&E Safety management system

  • Ensure that SCJ sites and projects comply with all required SHE and permitting requirements for RD&E projects in each of the states/provinces/countries where SCJ operates 

  • Track and report SCJ Global RD&E SHE metrics

  • Coordinate the implementation and management of the R&D safety management system and programs

  • Develop and deploy a 5-yearRD&E SHE strategy, and through coaching, help drive continuous improvement to deliver the strategy  

  • Assist business units, regions, and site teams in developing and deploying the enterprise RD&E safety strategy and plans

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety or Environmental Safety and Health required,

  • 5 or more years of Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) experience.  

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies: 

  • Experience in the chemical industry or in a fast-moving consumer goods company 

  • Experience working in an environment requiring daily compliance with a variety of SHE rules and regulations 

  • Experience in R&D, manufacturing operations, and engineering

  • Experience developing and deploying SHE management systems. Understanding of safety and environmental regulations related to RD&E work including; lab safety, hazardous energy control , electrical safety , hazard communication…

  • Experience and ability to work effectively cross-culturally, in all regions and in a matrix organization.

  • Ability to effectively garner support from others and strategically influence across a broad spectrum of people

  • Strong technical background, solid Project Management skills and mastery of the Training & Development process.

  • Ability to effectively manage and deliver projects safely, in scope, on-time, and in cost.

  • Exhibit a high degree of initiative and be self-motivated.

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills and team building skills.

  • Ability to deal with adversity and make the best of any situation.

  • Able to build an understanding of changing business and technical needs.

  • Ability to manage complex environmental and sustainability projects

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with governmental and regulatory personnel

Job Requirements:

  • Full-time with expectation to be available for calls & meetings across time zones

  • Variable global travel required, estimated to average 20 - 30 % annually 

Remote work is available once a week for eligible employees
