Lab Technician Formulation

As the Lab Technician, Formulation you will execute a variety of tests to develop and validate new formulations to meet the needs of our rapidly expanding business here at SC Johnson. You will be hands-on in the laboratory creating and testing formulas.


You will also participate as part of a cross-functional team including Chemists, Packaging Engineers and Project Managers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experiments utilizing standardized test methods

  • Operate laboratory test equipment in a Chemistry laboratory.  

  • Maintain concise and accurate records of laboratory experiments and other documentation to assure RD&E, Legal, and Corporate Compliance.

  • Keep Engineers and Scientists well informed of project status and results of laboratory investigations

  • Support development and testing of SCJ products, analysis and interpretation of results / data and electronic database management.

  • Monitor stability testing, including first production run stabilities, and maintain records thoroughly and concisely compliant with good laboratory practices

  • Prepare samples and track documentation for stability, micro-challenge, toxicological, clinical, and performance testing.

 Other Responsibilities:

  • Conduct performance testing rationale to support claims

  • Create pilot batches as necessary

  • Follow general lab safety guidelines and maintain a clean, orderly work area

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Associate degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other related science and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting OR a high school diploma and a minimum of 4 years of experience in a laboratory setting.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate accurately and concisely.

  • Ability to write reports and recommendations based on experimental results.

  • Basic understanding of experimental error and laboratory safety.  

  • Must be able to evaluate visual criteria accurately and consistently against a standard scale.

  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. Good initiative and strong sense of urgency.

  • Proficient computer skills; Strong Excel skills

  • Understanding of the functional properties, proper use, and the environmental impact of ingredients

  • Possess an understanding of regulatory processes, i.e., EPA registrations; experience

  • Design of Experiments or Statistical analysis skills

  • Scientific curiosity and the ability to solve technical problems related to packaging, formulation and manufacturing

  • Full time

  • 0- 5% travel

  • Ability to lift 10 – 40 pounds
