Lab Technician, Science & Technology

  • The Science & Technology Lab Technician executes a variety of assignments to support new product development and deliver fundamental understanding on the characterization and performance of different products and materials.  This is a hands-on laboratory role.

  • This role will contribute as part of our Fundamental & Applied Science team, and will initially support our Analytical Lab, Air Analysis Lab and Materials Lab, though duties may expand over time.  The successful candidate must be willing and able to support assignments in multiple laboratories. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct experiments utilizing standardized test methods

  • Operate laboratory test equipment in Analytical Lab, Air Analysis Lab and Materials Lab.  Examples of test equipment include, but aren’t limited to:

    • Analytical: Chomatography (e.g. GCMS, LCMS)

    • Air Analysis: Chemical Ionization Mass Spectometry (CIMS)

    • Materials: Thermal Analysis (e.g. DSC, TGA) and Mechanical Analysis (e.g. Instron, DMA) Equipment

  • With support, develop and document novel test methods to measure various performance attributes for new products.

  • Use sound, scientific experimentation practices and creative problem-solving techniques to support the development and testing of products through analysis and interpretation of data.

  • Maintain concise and accurate records of laboratory experiments and other documentation to assure RD&E, Legal, and Corporate Compliance.

  • Keep fellow scientists and engineers well informed of project status and results of laboratory investigations.

 Other Responsibilities:

  • Follow general lab safety guidelines and maintain a clean, orderly work area

  • Prepare and/or coordinate preparation of test samples as needed

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Associate degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other related science field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting or a minimum of 4 years of relevant lab experience and a high school diploma

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other related science

  • Technical aptitude and willingness to learn how to operate unfamiliar or new laboratory equipment

  • Understanding and ability to work safely in a laboratory setting.  

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate accurately and concisely.

  • Ability to write reports and recommendations based on experimental results.

  • Basic understanding of experimental error.

  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail. Good initiative and strong sense of urgency.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Proficient computer skills; Strong Excel skills

  • Experience operating analytical chromatography equipment: eg. GCMS, LCMS.

  • Experience operating CIMS equipment.

  • Experience operating Thermal Analysis (e.g. DSC, TGA) and Mechanical Analysis (e.g. Instron, DMA) Equipment

  • Design of Experiments or statistical analysis skills

Job Requirements:

  • Full time

  • 0- 5% travel

  • Ability to lift 10 – 40 pounds
