Manager, Global Media Relations & Issues Management

As an essential member of the high-performing Global Corporate Affairs and Communication team, the Global Media Relations and Issues Management Manager is responsible for helping to lead the company’s media relations and issues management strategies focused on strengthening SC Johnson’s corporate brand reputation.

Reporting to the Global Media Relations and Issues Management Director, the person in this position will help to develop engaging, integrated external communications initiatives and messaging consistent with the company narrative, build relationships with international, national and local media, support media inquiries and interviews, and develop strong relationships with agencies and multiple global stakeholders (both internal and external). The ideal candidate must be a seasoned verbal, written and visual storyteller, with good judgment, instincts and calm decision-making abilities to manage situational management of the risks and opportunities associated with the contemporary media environment.

SC Johnson’s total compensation packages are at or above industry levels. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and enhance SCJ’s corporate storytelling through earned and paid media planning and execution including media events and interviews that require on-site support.

  • Serve as subject matter expert and provide strategic counsel on earned and paid media relations.

  • Analyze key performance indicators to provide communications insights, informing leaders of trends and best practices.

  • Provide crisis support on crisis management needs, as appropriate.

  • Engage and perform duties for special Corporate Reputation Initiatives projects as assigned.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through personal training and development.

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in at least one of the following areas: communications, marketing, public relations, marketing, or related field degree a plus

  • Minimum of 7 years communication experience in corporate, government, PR agency

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Have a thorough understanding of the contemporary media ecosystem and how it pertains to building corporate reputation

  • Ability to function effectively in a demanding, fast-paced, and constantly changing work environment

  • Strong competencies in key performance indicators for earned and paid media

  • Proven ability to lead and work with cross-functional teams in support of specific business priorities

  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills

  • Able to build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders

  • Advanced computer skills

  • High level of professional integrity and discretion
