Senior Associate, North America Payroll Tax – (Tier 2)

Summary:

The Tier 2 Senior Associate, Payroll Tax is responsible for all compliance matters related to payroll taxes, tax updates and year-end reporting for the North American region (US, Canada and Puerto Rico).  This position will also be responsible for managing tax activity for active and retired employees; support payroll processing and process improvement projects, as well as provide employee and retiree support for any payroll, benefit and retirement inquiries.  This position will work closely with several cross-functional business partners to ensure payroll taxes are reported timely and accurately in the most efficient way possible in multiple states and provinces.  This position will be a hands-on strategic thinker and team player with demonstrated ability to identify and drive process improvement opportunities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with our tax providers to ensure all of our tax payments for federal, state, provincial and local agencies have been processed and paid
  • Coordinate all year-end activities including the generation of W2’s and W2C’s
  • Work with our payroll provider to ensure all tax updates are tested and applied to the payroll system correctly
  • In depth knowledge of government regulations and payroll tax requirements for the US, Puerto Rico and Canada
  • Maintain registrations and closure of tax accounts with varying agencies
  • Work with our tax providers to investigate and resolve tax notices in a timely manner to minimize the risk of potential interest and penalties
  • As part of the MyHR Delivery Center, ensure to address employees’ concerns and questions in a timely manner

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
  • 5+ years minimum experience with payroll processes (preferably with US, Puerto Rico and Canada payroll)
  • 3+ years minimum experience with payroll tax (preferably with US, Puerto Rico and Canada payroll tax)
  • Knowledge of tax laws and multi-state payroll processing and tax regulations
  • Experience with multi-state tax processing and filing

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of US, Puerto Rico and Canada payroll practices/policies/taxes
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to lead and motivate others without formal authority
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Organizational, multi-tasking and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Strong drive for results, accuracy, and control compliance
  • Ability to use initiative and be proactive in anticipating problems which may occur
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Strong communication skills and customer service experience
  • Experience with Ultimate, Workday and ADP Workforce Now is preferred
