Senior Associate, Category & Shopper

As the Senior Associate, Category & Shopper Leadership, you will be responsible for providing support to both the Shopper Insights team as well as the Center of Excellence. You will develop competitively advantaged shopper insights and category management solutions by utilizing secondary research resources to drive understanding of shopper behavior as well as fielding primary shopper studies.

In this position, you will also provide valuable support to the Center of Excellence, deliver best in class merchandising solutions, portfolio distribution tracking and act as a conduit to the broader Category & Shopper Insights Leadership organization by sharing best practices, key research findings and more through ownership of the monthly department newsletter. 

Key work streams include leading design & execution of retailer specific shopper research with identified ‘turnkey’ vendor and amplifying available secondary research to drive additional channel shopper understanding. In addition, you may own TDP tracking, gold standard POG development and will lead best practice communications. You will also be expected to work closely with the broader Category & Shopper Leadership team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with both the Shopper Insights team as well as Center of Excellence

  • Manage ‘turnkey’ primary research with identified partners, especially Numerator and FieldAgent

  • Work with Channel Shopper Insights Manager/Associate Manager to translate data findings into Retailer-specific strategic and tactical recommendations and solutions

  • As needed, lead Channel specific Primary research.  (Likely a developmental area for this associate)

  • Utilize secondary research resources to support channel specific and/or Macrocategories, Departments and broader Total Store trends Shopper Insights (i.e. Mintel, etc)

Center of Excellence Responsibilities:

  • Lead Best Practice Communication to broader Category & Shopper Leadership team.  This will involve strong communication with Shopper Insights, COE and broader team to gather submissions of current work, highlights of latest research findings, updates to best practices, key marketing initiatives and other critical news.  Sr associate will compile and share, in the form of a monthly team newsletter

  • Support team’s analytic needs, being first point of contact for Numerator and other data requests

  • Support COE team to develop best in class merchandising recommendations, namely gold standard POGs

  • Drive visibility of portfolio distribution trends by developing and delivering monthly TDP tracking to organization

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelors Degree and 2+ years of relevant work experience OR an advanced degree with 1+ years of relevant work experience

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US

PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES:

  • 2 years of experience in Shopper Insights and/or Retailer-specific Insights 

  • Experience working with top US retailers on design and delivery of customer research highly desired

  • Advanced skills in syndicated data tools, Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience with retailer specific data tools (POS, Retailer Loyalty Card data and planogram software (preferred)

  • Hands on knowledge with both primary and secondary research tools to understand shopper needs and behaviors (preferred)

  • Passion for understanding and using human/shopper behavior to craft solutions

  • Ability to define root cause factors from data, experience and judgment and translate data into compelling stories for customers

  • Cross-functional team partnership

  • Strong presentation and influencing skills with excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Comfort in dealing with ambiguity and ability to work in a self-directed environment

  • High sense of urgency
