Licensed Electrician (Day Shift)

With direction from Manager, Maintenance & Facilities, this position is responsible for all the electrical and process controls infrastructure required to safely operate and maintain the Brantford’s central utilities and Manufacturing process. Specifically, these utilities consist of the transformers, high voltage systems, power lines, boiler operation, central chilling plant, air handling units, Central Filter System, compressed air units, processing, filling, and packaging units. The Electrical Specialist is also responsible for the operation of the chiller plant, HVAC and Carrier systems and the Tracer Summit

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Environment and Safety

  • Abide by all safety policies and procedures, regulations and rules. Know and understand their requirements as defined in the SCJ health and Safety programs. Know and understand the hazards associated with the work being performed as well as the control measures. Participate in health and safety program development through task forces and committees.
  • Maintain constant awareness and upgraded skill level pertaining to all company emergency procedures, government regulations including but not limited to building codes, fire codes, flammable liquids storage and handling, hazardous waste, fire protection etc.
  • Assist in energy audits and balances to establish base line performance

Operations

  • Operate the chiller plant, monitor daily key indicators surrounding the chiller plant.
  • Maintain the high voltage system. Lead the annual shut down.
  • Maintain manufacturing data acquisition systems and utility meters to monitor consumption by individual production lines (includes steam, electricity, water, compressed air)
  • Take corrective action to maintain stable operation and avoid equipment failure
  • Develop and execute plans for preventative maintenance
  • Manage inspection and repairs provided by outside contractors.
  • Recommend changes in operation and or equipment to reduce energy consumption.
  • Determine operating norms for efficient operation. Maintain accurate logs and records
  • Document process modifications for change management records
  • Respond to emergencies as outlined in the Emergency Response Manual
  • First line of response for after-hours call ins and breakdowns
  • Share accumulated knowledge and expertise with other stake holders in the company
  • Act as back up for the facilities mechanical specialist; cross train to ensure uninterrupted service to the plant during illness, vacations or off site training. Know how to operate the boilers, CFS and compressors
  • Liaise with government agencies pertaining to facility operations- ex. TSSA, MOL, MOE, ESA.
  • Involvement in third party inspections and audits- ex. Fire Department, Insurance, GAPS, FMC, GTT Onset
  • Support the manufacturing operation with coverage on the shop floor as required by the Maintenance department

Capital Projects

  • Manage Facilities capital projects, using early management tools and processes from concept through to construction, including day to day job site supervision, managing all finances –, obtain quote, prepare MEA, PO’s, vendor set up, installation and construction oversight  in accordance with SHE Policies and procedures as well as legislative requirements
  • Gather field data, perform analysis to facilitate/ lead system design changes or improvements and initiate related project process.
  • Provide direction and supervision to contract employees as qualified job monitor and sponsor.

Quality

  • Drive continuous improvement Implement and maintain 5S

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Industrial Electrician license required (442A preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and coordination
  • Ability and willingness to attend to issues off shift and on weekends, including on call .
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate daily work activities of contractors on site.
  • Good understanding of construction and maintenance related activities
  • Good Computer Skills - SAP, e-mail, MS Windows / Office, etc…
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work with Minimum supervision
  • Working knowledge of Fire Protection Systems (Sprinklers, pumps, etc.) and Fire Control system operation

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • College diploma with a relevant specialization.

Required courses: Competent Supervision, First Aid CPR and AED Training, Confined Space, FTT, Hot work, Working at Heights, High Angle Rescue
