ABOUT THE ROLE

As Manager, Logistics Operations at SC Johnson you will be responsible for the overall management and performance of the Distribution Centers including office and warehouse operations, customer relations, information technology, quality and security.

In addition, this role is accountable for achieving company objectives, productivity standards and cost goals.

You will be responsible for coordinating and supervising all traffic functions relating to freight movement into and out of the warehouse(s), maintaining prescribed service levels while keeping costs at a minimum, and training and supervising those in the Transportation Department to ensure meeting departmental and company objectives.

You will also develop appropriate transportation programs that meet cost and service objectives and customer needs (rate negotiation and the purchase of transportation, freight bill auditing and overcharge claims and optimum traffic routes).

You will identify and analyze transportation costs, equipment availability and service levels, making recommendations and instituting corrective action.

You will ensure the company is in compliance with Federal and state transportation regulations.

Lastly, you will ensure the accurate and timely preparation, processing, distribution and retention of all necessary reports and records regarding warehouse operations according with GIA&SOAR requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and direct all direct reports to ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and utilization of the facility. Oversee all distribution services including receiving, storing, shipping, handling returned/damaged goods, maintenance and administrative activities to ensure customer requirements are met.
  • Plan long-range labor needs based on sales forecasts and input from management.
  • Develop a space utilization plan to meet prescribed cost and service standards. Monitor the space layout plan to ensure it continues to meet company standards.
  • Direct and supervise the scheduling of incoming and outgoing shipments to ensure efficient resource utilization and achievement of customer relations goals. Determine the most economical traffic patterns.
  • Schedule customer pickups as required.
  • Focus on continuous improvement and make recommendations to senior management on programs to improve operations. Delivering saving year over year to achieve budgeted targets.

Labor Management

  • Direct the operations to achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Develop and maintain a productive work team by creating programs for hiring, training and professional development.
  • Match the skill and background of personnel to the work required.
  • Apply sound communication and motivational techniques, create programs to supervise, counsel and discipline associates.
  • Implement an appropriate performance evaluation system for recommending promotions, wage increases and terminations.

Equipment/Safety

  • Ensure that procedures are in place for the efficient operation and utilization of all warehouse equipment.
  • Direct programs to ensure the safety of all personnel, equipment and property.
  • Provide safety instruction to personnel as needed. Report all work-related injuries immediately.
  • Provide immediate medical attention to injured employees as necessary. Ensure compliance with appropriate government regulations and SCJ standards.

Relationships: Customers Internal and External

  • Continually maintain a professional and courteous relationship with all customers internal and external. Audit operations to ensure service standards are being met. Meet with customers to discuss performance against KPIs.
  • Foster end to end relationship in order to achieve supply end to end objectives.

Relationships: Carriers

  • Oversee carrier services by specifying routings, and transportation extra expenses. Evaluate carrier performance and recommend any appropriate changes in mode and/or carrier.
  • Supervise the Risk Management Supplier system. Ensure compliance with all government and SCJ regulations. Evaluate and negotiate carrier rates.

Inventory Management

  • Ensure current and accurate inventory control for all products.
  • Ensure the creation of the necessary warehouse information systems to meet company objectives and facilitate the efficient operations of the warehouse.
  • Remain knowledgeable regarding changes in hardware and software technology.

Security

  • Ensure the security of the facility, its environs, employees and contents.

Documentation / Reporting

  • Prepares budget. Oversees billings and record payments of freight bills. Establishes a financial audit for fleet operations to determine its efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Develop / operate an effective transportation information reporting and management
  • System according with GIA&SOAR requirements.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Education International trade degree, Engineer degree or Administration degree.
  • Experience minimum level of direct experience in a similar position 2 years.
  • Manager experience is required.
  • Knowledge/Skills:
    • A comprehensive knowledge of warehouse operations is necessary.
    • A working knowledge of warehouse and transportation management systems is a must.
    • A broad range of management skills is required with particular emphasis on leadership, supervision, motivation, communication, and planning. Must be able to give and receive innovative, creative and helpful feedback for team growth and productivity.
    • Must be able to interface and communicate effectively within the organization, with business units throughout the company, and with partners across the supply chain.
    • Must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Must be a strong team player with a firm, personal commitment toward the business and its customers.
    • Must value diversity and exhibit a leadership style that empowers, coaches, mentors, and fosters a cohesive team environment.
    • Must also be successful in managing effective deployment of resources, systems and personnel to enable achievement of organizational objectives.
    • Extensive sourcing, negotiation and human relations skills are required.
