As the Associate Manager, Electrical Devices Engineer, also known as the Electrical Device Engineer (ED Engineer), you will be responsible for designing electromechanical devices (appliances) that meet performance, safety, reliability, manufacturing, and business requirements. This will involves collaborating with full-service suppliers and internal cross-functional teams, including marketing, design, product development, and manufacturing, to ensure robust and consumer-focused designs. You must be adaptable, working with both front-end teams in ambiguous situations and executing precise technology work for successful product launches. Key responsibilities include defining project timelines and deliverables, coordinating development with suppliers, supporting commercialization activities, and delivering technical data packages that meet global regulatory standards such as UL or IEC.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop components, assemblies, and processes for product design and manufacturing.

  • Own and manage the device design guide and technical plan, ensuring product design and validation testing meet performance, safety, and quality standards.

  • Identify cost savings/efficiency changes to delivery systems currently in market or in development.

  • Discover and integrate next-generation materials and technologies to support business and sustainability goals.

  • Test and qualify components, devices, and systems through lab testing, line trials, and consumer testing.

  • Applies root cause analysis and problem-solving skills to identify the most critical factors that impact successful device development and recommend needed changes 

  • Ensures technical elements of device design are defined in the product specification to deliver a robust design. 

  • Work under limited supervision, influencing project progress across functional areas.

  • Provide consistent, two-way communication between suppliers and project teams

  • Leverage scientific and functional expertise for successful development and commercialization.

  • Work independently and with multifunctional teams (Marketing, Researchers, Product Supply) to design, develop, and qualify new devices within committed timelines.

  • Prepare presentations and reports to support timely project execution.

  • Demonstrate agility in scenario planning and develop plans to mitigate risks proactively.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  •  Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with at least 5 years of relevant work experience OR Master’s Degree Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant work experience

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Advanced degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

  • Strong communication skills to harness technical capability across/outside SCJ

  • Experience as a key technical expert within large RD&E organizations

  • 3+ years experienced working with manufacturers outside the US and applying small appliance certified protocols (e.g. UL, IEC) are a definite plus

  • Proven track record in successful product launches using new product development processes

  • Computer literacy: MS Office and CAD Software (i.e. SolidWorks or ProE)

  • Familiarity with statistics, FMEA, Risk Analysis, Fault Tree Failure analysis and Design of Experiments

  • Strong planning and organization skills; demonstrated ability to set realistic goals and timetables using sound judgement to execute strategic projects/programs

  • Able to multi-task with a given project as well as multiple projects without missing key deliverables points

  • Strong team and interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communication; strong presentation skills

  • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills

  • Understands material properties and the appropriate selection of materials to deliver on the product performance and cost objectives

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Position is Full-Time, regular business hours, Monday-Friday

  • Office and Lab work environment: Remote work available once a week for eligible employees

  • Ability to lift 10 – 40 pounds

  • Travel up to 15% (domestic and international is expected at times)

  •  This role is not eligible for domestic/international relocation.
