Associate Manager, Electrical Controls Engineer

The Associate Manager, Electrical Engineer provides site engineering staff with an engineering leader who is responsible for driving technical excellence in the Electrical, Controls & Automation (EC&A) engineering discipline.  The incumbent will have a leadership role in developing and executing a sitewide EC&A strategy as well as in the planning, directing, and coordinating of all new EC&A Design Engineering activities associated with new equipment installations across the facility.  This position requires strong personal initiative to identify opportunities, achieve engineering standardization and implementing best practice across the S. C. Johnson’s Waxdale manufacturing site. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations to develop and drive standardization of factory automation and controls by incorporating industry best practice into the manufacturing facility

  • Develops automation and control system solutions to improve operational performance

  • Lead capital projects throughout the facility related high voltage electrical infrastructure improvements or controls and automation in support of new equipment, obsolescence, or new technologies.  Approximately 20% high voltage related projects and 80% electrical controls & automation  

  • Function as a subject matter expert for electrical, controls and automation by providing front end engineering and executional support to other site engineers and projects   

  • Support maintenance operations to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified equipment installations

  • Support the development and implementation of engineering best practices throughout the facility and collaborating with Global Engineering to develop and implement global best practices 

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • B.S in Electrical Engineering or related discipline or military experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement 

  • Minimum five years of experience or three years plus advanced degree in similar position preferably in the CPG, Food/Beverage, or pharmaceutical industries developing and maintaining automation and control systems

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully both independently with minimal supervision, as well as within a team environment

  • Strong electrical controls and automation background especially in current and past platforms of AB and Modicon systems

  • Wonderware software application related to chemical processing control systems

  • Experience in chemical processing and control systems for items such as tanks, agitators, pumps, compressors, instrumentation, and automated valves

  • Experience in packaging process for liquids or aerosols products related to filling, labeling, closing, packaging, and palletizing

  • Experience with industrial PLC networks and IT infrastructure

  • A strong electrical knowledge to include AC/DC principles, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servos motors and motion controls, robotics, and pneumatics

  • Machine safety per ISO 13849, performance levels (PL), and safety integrity levels (SIL).  Machine safety risk assessments and safety related control systems

  • NFPA/NEC electrical classification principles related to hazardous environments

  • Demonstrated understanding of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance practices

  • Demonstrated experience modifying and programming industrial control systems

  • Experience in project management and related management software

  • Knowledge of SAP as it relates to maintenance planning/scheduling, parts ordering, etc

  • TPM/Lean knowledge and application, including continual improvement process applications

Job Requirements

  • Full-time first shift in both office and manufacturing related setting

  • Domestic and International travel are required.   Estimated travel = 5-10%

  • Periodic off-shift and weekend flexibility is required during project implementation

  • Remote work is available once a week for eligible employees
