The Category Manager – New Ventures is responsible for developing best practice sales strategies to drive category growth & shopper conversion across customers and channels for the relevant categories The role reports into the Director of Category & Shopper Leadership – Center of Excellence and Shopper Insights. The category manager is expected to provide fact and insight-based solutions that drive growth for the categories in which New Ventures plays in, customers, and company. Utilizing shopper insight, opportunity identification and full understanding of products, assortment, pricing, placement, shelving, promotion, and merchandising, this role is the primary category and insight provider the relevant category for HQ as well as for the retailer. This category manager will work closely with New Venture Companies while collaborating with SCJ Field Sales, Customer Marketing, Brand, Sales Strategy, Consumer Insights & Business Analytics and Sales Leadership Team on category management capabilities and ways to deploy category management capabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Translate data and insight into retailer-specific strategic and tactical recommendations and solutions
- Be the Category Advocate & Expert for the field and internal teams. Identify specific research opportunities (shopper, consumer, etc.) to bring new learning to category leadership solutions
- Drive identification of category best practices for distribution, merchandising, shelving, and pricing
- Lead analysis of drivers of category performance across retailers & channels to influence development of category growth and conversion strategies
- Lead development of shelf & space strategy including planogram guidance, cross category shelving strategies, space measurement
- Create and plan category leadership solutions that deliver profitable sales growth for our retailers. These solutions should include shopper and category insights across products/ assortment, shelving and merchandising (everyday, seasonal, and promotional).
- Develop category based selling stories for new items
- Leverage insights and resources through the utilization of a broad range of data sources, market research findings, tools, analyses, and technology to continually bring new shopper ideas to create compelling retailer-focused strategies and actionable presentations.
- Partner with Shopper Insights team to facilitate research and story development as strategic category specialist. Assist with any research and lead project to deliver category leadership solutions benefitting both customer and category.
- Influence annual planning, partnering with both sales team providing category insights and solutions that support category leadership objectives and will help grow the New Ventures Company and win share.
- Anticipate how category trends will impact future performance and work to develop a New Venture’s Company POV/recommendations on how to maximize category performance
Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum 5 years’ relevant experience required or an advanced degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
- Qualified candidates must be authorized to work in the united states.
Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:
- Advanced degree preferred
- 5+ years of experience in Category management, preferred experience in CPG and/or retail

- Previous experience analyzing retailer-supplied point-of-sale data and retailer loyalty card data, assortment analysis tools, and shelving and store analytics
- Ability to define root cause factors from data, experience, and judgment in translating data into compelling stories for customers’
Job Requirements:
- Ability to travel up to 10-20% of the time
- Remote work is available once a week for eligible employees.
- This role is eligible for domestic relocation.
