ABOUT THE ROLE
As Associate Manager, Chemistry supporting the AMET region, you will lead a variety of work related to the formulation, claims, and consumer acceptability of cross-category products to the needs of our business. This includes new formulations, line extensions, and business maintenance support across the AMET portfolio. You will work closely with the PCM team in the region to lead new product development, guide local testing, and liaise with other global experts in Categories for guidance and support as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as technical lead to drive the product development and formulation needs for the NPD pipeline of the AMET region via new products or product improvements that address consumer user criteria, needs, and insights, while meeting internal ingredient standards.
Act as primary technical liaison with Global Category SMEs in Air Care, Home Cleaning, and Pest Control.
Quickly respond to business continuity risks to assess alternative raw materials in collaboration and shepherd through GSARA assessment process when needed.
Identify formula-based cost-savings opportunities across the AMET portfolio, including opportunities to localize raw materials to avoid FX exposure risk.
Maintain awareness of regulatory and sustainability issues applicable to product launches
Act as technical lead for early-stage new product development exploration
Lead product claims through the new product development cycle
Guide, mentor, and coach AMET team members to conduct local testing and validation studies
Collaborate with external partners to advance project execution or advance key technical platforms critical for the business
Prepare samples and track documentation for micro-challenge, toxicological, clinical, and performance testing. Coordinate outside testing with appropriate resources as required
Develop specifications and input data into SAP with accuracy and attention to detail
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Engineering or related science and 5 years of relevant work experience
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Advanced degree in chemistry or engineering
Minimum of 5 years of formulating consumer products
Demonstrated track record of developing and commercializing consumer-preferred solutions.
Familiar with the range of SC Johnson categories and related technologies, including Pest Control, Home Cleaning, and Air Care.
Knowledge of the product development process and experience related to various formulation and delivery system technologies related to products (e.g., aerosol and trigger formulation, emulsion chemistry, gel formulation, membrane technology, surfactants, solvents, builders)
Scientific aptitude & curiosity, and the ability to solve technical problems related to formulation
Provide innovative ideas and knowledge with a high degree of integrity, speed, and a results-oriented approach
Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate accurately and concisely to multiple levels within the company
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Position is Full-Time, Monday-Friday. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that may include early morning online meetings (6 am) with AMET team.
Office and Lab work environment: Remote work available once a week for eligible employees
Ability to lift 10 – 40 pounds
Travel up to 10%, primarily to AMET region
This role is not eligible for relocation.
