As the Associate Manager, Manufacturing Engineer you will support manufacturing operations by managing capital equipment projects and operational improvement efforts to ensure a safe, high quality, and high performance working environment. You will lead and collaborate with cross functional partners in maintenance, manufacturing operations, safety, learning & development, and lean organizations to ensure new or changed process are implemented with precision. You will continually look to eradicate losses, build new capabilities and/or implement new technologies, primarily focused on safety, quality, cost and productivity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage new equipment capital projects from concept phase through startup.
Develop project budgets and obtain funding approval and manage project costs through life of project.
Develop equipment and process specifications for new equipment using SCJ early management engineering work process.
Investigates, drives, and assists in implementation of cost saving projects, manufacturing process optimization, business process optimization, and productivity improvements related to existing manufacturing equipment and process.
Collaborate with R&D, procurement, and process development teams during the new product development process to ensure all new product specifications are aligned with manufacturing capabilities within the site.
Develop site standards and best practices for equipment and processes for reapplication to other areas.
Participate in capital planning process and development of strategic equipment plans for the site.
Act as a technical resource and mentor to peers.
Assure compliance to SCJ Global Standards and other regulations that may apply.
Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar manufacturing or industrial related discipline or military experience considered in lieu of education requirement
Minimum 5 years experience related to capital projects in manufacturing setting.
Experience the CPG, Food/Beverage, Chemical, Pharmaceutical Industries or other similar high volume manufacturing environment.
Experience in specifying custom equipment to meet project objectives
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:
Technical Experience with filling, labeling, and packaging equipment and processes related to aerosol or liquid container products.
Cost estimating experience to establish project budget and ability execute projects within budget targets.
Principles of overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Ensure new equipment meets all aspects of OEE to achieve targets.
Use of 2D / 3D CAD systems for overall plant layout aspects and machine design aspects.
Process FMEA and Process Control Planning methodology.
Overall machine safety principles, risk assessment, and performance levels per ISO / OSHA standards.
Project Management – Developing project plans, budgets, timing and communicating status changes and risks throughout the project.
Vendor and contractor management – onboarding and managing relationships with vendors and contractors. Ensuring contractors achieve minimum safety requirements.
Communication - Strong oral and written communication skills.
Teamwork – ability to serve as team member or team leader and influence others to achieve objectives.
Business Acumen & Adaptability - Understands business implications of decisions; aligns work with strategic goals; adapts to frequent changes in priority due to dynamic business inputs.
Innovation - Displays original thinking, creativity and resourcefulness which generate innovative approaches and ideas.
Dealing with Ambiguity - Ability to identify the problem to solve, recommend objectives, and develop a course of action to deliver results.
Job Requirements:
Full Time, 1st Shift. Occasional off shift flexibility for night or weekend work as projects require.
Travel expected in the range of 5-10%. Some international travel may be required.
This position is not eligible for domestic relocation
