Power Plant Technician Entry Level, T21 - 3rd Shift

This position supports Environmental Operations and Waxdale Central Services by performing daily Power Plant assignments. The candidate for this position will work with the Power Plant team and engineers in running the turbine and Power plant in the safest most efficient manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Possess a solid understanding of Power Plant and Turbine Operations
  • Demonstrated mechanical equipment aptitude
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office Applications
  • Ability to accurately follow detailed procedures, maintain a neat and orderly work environment, accurate databases input and communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Maintain a very organized work environment complying with ISO9000 and 14001 standards
  • Flexibility to handle a variety of assignments against stressful deadlines
  • Candidate must be a self-starter dedicated to meeting established objectives
  • Possess strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Basic understanding of environmental laws
  • Perform chemical water analysis
  • Perform applicable PMs and equipment repairs per approved process
  • Provide support to Power Plant contractors
  • Ability to work alone at times
  • Must pass Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Strong mathematical skills and mechanical aptitude and the ability to apply these skills in problem solving.
  • Must obtain Power Plant Low-Pressure and High-Pressure Boiler license within timeframe of skill matrix
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • High school Diploma or Equivalent OR currently enrolled in a Youth Apprenticeship Program with an anticipated high school graduation of June 2025
  • Must be able to attend school on non-traditional work hours
  • Qualified candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Candidates with prior technical training in mechanical and boiler operation.
  • SCJ Youth Apprenticeship Program experience
  • 2+ years of manufacturing or Power plant experience.
  • Experience with Co-Gens
  • Training and experience with low and high-pressure steam.
  • Basic understanding of Environmental laws
  • Ability to learn from and build the capability of team members
  • Ability to make sound judgments to ensure continuity of operations
  • Solid computer skills
    • Microsoft office suite experience
    • Computer automation experience in monitoring power plant processes
