ABOUT THE ROLE
As the Associate Manager, Mechanical Engineer, you will contribute hands on as well as guide others in engineering activities associated with new product development. In this role, your primary focus will be the extrusion, compounding, pelletizing, powder handling/mixing, processing additives and coatings for plastics with an emphasis on sustainable substrates. You will help identify and translate consumer needs into the design of products and associated processes to improve the user experience. You will work independently to execute on deliverables in alignment with operational direction from the Ziploc R&D leadership team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineer processes as part of the design of products and the way they are manufactured
Lead outside design and manufacturing resources to assure the timely delivery of the internal project
Coordinate with the efforts of the larger cross functional team to achieve project objectives
Initiate cost savings/efficiency changes to delivery systems currently in market or in development
Identify next generational materials and technologies that would benefit the business and sustainability goals
Serve as a technical expert for food storage products, including containment methods, materials, closures, manufacturing line requirements, conversion techniques, and compatibility
Qualify storage products through lab testing, line trials, and consumer testing
Apply root cause analysis to identify product or conversion issues and recommend needed changes through detailed DOE, synthesis, and analysis
May guide, train, or coach other junior professionals by using advanced scientific methods on quality processes and robust product specifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or other relevant engineering field and a minimum of 6 years of experience in the development and commercialization of consumer product goods, OR Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or other relevant engineering field with at least 4 years in the development and commercialization of consumer product goods
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Experience working with extrusion methods, plastic processing sub-assemblies, and converting equipment.
Experience with powder handling and mixing, compounding, pelletizing and extruding polymer films
Experience working with design and manufacturing partners outside the organization
Experience with development methods and tools, such as DOEs, to solve technical problems, and deliver claims
Technical breadth and depth in product development and commercialization, global products experience, technology trends, competitive and IP landscape, systems, analytical test methods, sustainability, and leveraging external technologies
Self-driven, results-oriented with a clear focus on high quality and timely delivery of objectives
Natural forward planner who critically assesses own performance and is reliable, tolerant, determined, and empathic communicator
Excellent communicator with track record of presenting ideas with courage and conviction
Strong project management skills
JOB REQUIREMENTS
This position will be located in our Bay City, MI office
Remote work is available once per week for eligible employees
Up to 10% travel
Ability to lift 10 – 40 pounds
This role is not eligible for relocation
