ABOUT THE ROLE
SC Johnson is searching for an experienced Packaging Engineer to lead the end-to-end (E2E) packaging development process for your product portfolio that includes our iconic Scrubbing Bubbles, Drano and Fantastik brands!
As Associate Manager on the North America Home Cleaning Research and Development (R&D) organization, your primary focus will be on leveraging both emerging and established packaging technologies to drive innovation and enhance existing products. A strong consumer-centric mindset is essential, as packaging solutions must align with brand strategies and deliver on key consumer needs.
As a technical subject matter expert, you will guide cross functional teams through the design and development of new packaging or the optimization of current formats to meet business goals. Through the development of project plans, ensuring timely execution of technical deliverables, and applying critical thinking to resolve packaging challenges, your contributions will support growth, sustainability, business continuity, and cost savings initiatives.
Your ability to stay current with industry trends and technological advancements will be crucial to maintaining a competitive edge and delivering impactful packaging solutions across your portfolio.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead E2E packaging development for North America Cleaning projects, covering primary, secondary, and ecommerce packaging.
Provide functional leadership on growth, business continuity, sustainability, and cost-saving initiatives, adhering to established technical processes and procedures.
Ensure timely and complete delivery of technical deliverables.
Develop packaging solutions that meet both internal and external customer needs.
Coach and mentor junior Packaging Engineers in North America Home Cleaning.
Lead or participate in packaging and process improvement workstreams.
Collaborate proactively with project managers and cross-functional teams to build project timelines, achieve key milestones, address technical risks, and identify new ways of working.
Develop and execute test plans, perform lab tests, present data in technical reviews, and document results in technical reports.
Generate robust specifications for packaging components, finished goods, bills of materials, and pallet factors.
Provide technical expertise and critical thinking to resolve technical issues.
Demonstrate the ability to pivot between working on the front-end of a project operating in ambiguity to delivering in the execution phase.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging or other relevant engineering disciplines (e.g. Mechanical, Materials, etc.) and 5+ years of product/packaging development experience, OR master’s degree with 4+ years relevant work experience.
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship for full-time employment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Strong technical expertise in multiple packaging disciplines, dispensing systems, materials, closures, manufacturing line requirements, plastic molding techniques, and environmental impact.
Knowledge of Ecommerce Packaging Design and Qualification.
Knowledge of US DOT Regulations.
Knowledge of Special Packs and the Warehouse Club Class of Trade.
Effective presentation and storytelling skills to communicate with all organizational levels.
Strategic thinker with strong problem solving and solutioning skills.
PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), CAPE and Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Curious, proactive and bias for action.

Full time, Monday through Friday, business hours
Up to 15% domestic and international travel
Ability to lift 10 – 40 pounds
Remote work available once a week for eligible employees
This role is eligible for domestic relocation
