ABOUT THE ROLE
International Consumer Brands (ICB) Home Cleaning is looking for a packaging engineer to join a newly created team championing sustainability initiatives in alignment with our 5-year strategy.
As an Associate Manager, you will be the SME that drives sustainability initiatives related to recycled plastics, virgin plastic reduction, and overall recyclability improvements. You will apply emerging technologies to identify, develop and drive technical solutions into effective product design. Additionally, you will contribute to the technical development & qualification of new or revised packaging materials & products.
To be successful in this role, you will be curious and action oriented. You will partner with key internal and external stakeholders and business partners to bring creative solutions to technical challenges old & new. Additionally, you will leverage your technical subject matter expertise with cross functional teams to ensure achievement of project objectives, strategic initiatives, and growth goals. It is also crucial that you remain current with the latest technology to effectively and efficiently impact portfolio activity.
In addition to your hands on technical work, you will have the opportunity to serve as a go-to and mentor, influencing and impacting continuous learning and capabilities of other packaging engineers within the ICB organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Contribute packaging technology and product design options that fulfill consumer needs
Identify and evaluate new packaging materials and components that unlock speed in execution
Provide expertise in areas of package design, material selection, performance characterization methods, and iterative prototyping to support test and learn model of new product development (NPD)
Lead outside vendors & design partners to ensure timely delivery of project milestones, including prototype samples, product qualification and scale-up activities
Collaborate with project managers and cross functional teams to build project timelines, deliver key milestones, and provide input on technical risks & mitigation plans
Develop validation and line qualification plans, perform lab tests, and document results in technical reports
Model R&D functional skills including effective communication, quality in design, regulatory compliance, product safety, and scientific rigor
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging or other relevant engineering disciplines (e.g., Mechanical, Material Science, etc.) and 6+ years of packaging development experience, OR Master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant work experience
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Prior experience in packaging solutions that maximize recyclability, recycled content, virgin plastic reduction, and minimize negative environmental impacts of our products and materials selection
Expertise in multiple packaging disciplines such as rigid plastics, dispensing systems, flexible materials, closures, manufacturing line requirements and plastic molding techniques
Project management experience and the ability to anticipate, identify, communicate and mitigate technical risks
Strategic thinker with ability to effectively navigate complex and/or ambiguous situations
Excellent communication skills with ability to present, influence and persuade across functions and organizational levels
Multilingual communication skills
JOB REQUIREMENTS
This position is Monday through Friday and will be located at our Sam’s campus in Mt. Pleasant
Must be willing to flex work hours for calls and meetings in international time zones
Remote work available once a week for eligible employees
Travel up to 15% which can include internationally
This position is eligible for domestic relocation
