ABOUT THE ROLE
SC Johnson is looking for an individual with scientific background and curiosity to join the global pest control business. This is an opportunity to be part of an innovative cross functional team that develops and improves repellent products and their performance based on consumer criteria, needs and insights. This is a rapidly expanding business line that reaches an international consumer base in a vast number of countries.
As a Senior Associate, Chemistry and Formulation, you will be accountable for formulations, labeling, and consumer acceptability of our products in support of business goals and objectives. You will develop new products, line extensions, and lead technology advancements which result in new, consumer preferred benefits. You will influence and help mitigate cost containment by managing ingredients and testing processes; compliance with industry safety and best practices; support product claims documentation; partner with third party suppliers and other key internal and external business partners. Your subject matter expertise will directly contribute to the successful commercialization of new ideas that drive consumer and corporate value.
ADDITIONAL KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Meet internal ingredient standards and industry best practices for safety, scientific significance, accuracy, and recordkeeping
Monitor stability testing and maintain thorough and concise records in compliance with good laboratory practices
Coordinate outside testing with third party resources and ensure expectations are met
Stay up to date on trade publications and other industry news sources for raw material information, regulatory updates, and educational opportunities
Generate data, analyze data, and draw conclusions to make recommendations
Prepare and/or coordinate preparation of sales samples as needed for photography, trade shows, etc.
Work closely with cross functional team members on ensuring quality scale up of laboratory formulas
Participation in cross functional teams for new product development and launches
Obtain an awareness of regulatory and sustainability issues applicable to product launches
Work as a member of a fast-paced project team to create new products or product improvements that address consumer user criteria, needs, and insights
Leverage experimental design (DOE) and statistics to determine course(s) of action that meet business needs
Leverage external resources to identify and recommend applicable new technologies
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of science including Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering
2+ years of experience in chemistry, formulations and ingredients, product development or other relevant experience; OR a master’s degree
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Experience in personal care or pharmaceutical industries
Experience with formulations and delivery system technologies
Knowledge of product development lifecycle and Design of Experiment (DOE)
Understanding of the functional properties, proper use, and the environmental impact of ingredients
Understanding of regulatory processes and requirements
Strong communication skills and ability to effectively present
JOB REQUIREMENTS
This position will be located at our Sam’s campus in Mt. Pleasant
Work in office and lab environments
Remote work available once a week for eligible employees
Travel up to 15%
This position is eligible for domestic relocation
