The Company's Total Rewards package is at or above industry levels. The expected base salary range for this position is between 69,536.00 CAD - 91,266.00 CAD. Job related skills, experience, education, and location will be considered in setting actual starting base salary. In addition to your base salary and depending on job level, eligibility, and performance, a total package may include profit sharing, a short-term incentive and/or long-term incentives. The Sr. Technical Specialist, SHE provides continuous SHE coverage for production, maintenance, project work, and contractor activities, serving as the primary point of contact during designated shift hours. The incumbent must operate as an independent, technically strong EHS resource—capable of interpreting regulations locally and working collaboratively with the site leadership and Global functions as appropriate, troubleshooting issues in real time, making defensible decisions, and providing immediate guidance with limited supervision. This position will also lead contractor safety and permit oversight, conducts field verification and hazard mitigation, and ensures effective communication and handoff to maintain compliance on shift and operational continuity across shifts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides continuous SHE coverage for the shift, including Production, Maintenance and Project/contractor activities
  •  Leads contractor safety and permit oversight on the shift, conducts field verification and hazard mitigation
  • Coordinates the improvement and day to day operation of SHE management systems including but not limited to Waste Manager, Wastewater Management, Environmental Risk Assessments (SHERA’s), GEMBA, and SHE incident trending and reduction
  • Supports and collaborates with internal stakeholders by providing Technical and SHE system support
  • Reviews and supports the company Environmental policies and procedures, may recommend enhancements over time
  • Supports the site by ensuring timely closure of SHE corrective and preventative actions (CAPA)
  • Supports the implementation of new or revised Global SHE policies
  • Supports the Brantford site with continued ISO 14001 Environmental Management system certification
  • Tracks and reports on SHE initiatives including waste, GHG and indent reduction initiatives
  • Supports the SHE Manager in the ongoing compliance with environmental permits, licenses and governmental reporting
  • Coordinates and tracks activities of outside consultants to maintain effective and appropriate assistance to the company
  • Conducts, develops, tracks and/or coordinates the delivery of required business specific SHE training
  • It is the responsibility of all SCJ Brantford manufacturing employees to follow Good manufacturing practices as directed.  

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Post secondary education/diploma in related field (Environmental Studies, Environmental science) 
  • Experience in Environmental compliance and environmental program development
  • Knowledge of Environmental and health and safety regulations
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Sound working knowledge of computer software and data management skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Developed organizational and project management skills
  • Proven analytical, decision making and problem solving skills
  • 3 years experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • University degree in Environmental Studies/Science is preferred.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • This role will support the off shift in manufacturing, working afternoon and night shifts (if operational) with sound collaboration with day shift counterpart
  • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent exposure to the manufacturing environment (daily)
  • Minimal travel is required –approximately 10% potential to support vendor/project management
