Job title: Senior Packaging Engineer
Location: Cairo, Egypt
Overview:
- The Senior Packaging Engineer primarily contributes to the technical development of new &/or existing packaging for products in support of global & regional brands.
- This role will be a key member in the development, validation, and commercialization of new products, line extensions, & product maintenance projects.
- This role will be a key member of & participate on the regional team supporting the Middle East, North Africa, Pakistan, and Turkey (MENAPT) cluster.
Responsibilities:
- Apply new & existing packaging technologies towards the development of innovative products & the enhancement of existing products that consumers find appealing, easy to use, & allows SC Johnson to win
- Complete performance & compatibility testing in support of packaging component changes.
- Collaborate with multifunctional core teams (R&D, Design, Finance, Marketing, Consumer Research, & Supply Chain) to successfully contribute to the development & launch of new products in an accelerated manner.
- Generate robust packaging component specifications, finished good product specifications, & bills of materials as part of technical validation process.
- Provide technical knowledge & problem-solving skills to evaluate & correct package-related issues to maintain production schedules & product quality as needed.
- Utilize knowledge to contribute to the successful commercialization of new ideas driving consumer & corporate value.
- Provide packaging development project tasks & related timing to the Project Manager to help create & manage project timelines.
- Continue to gain technical knowledge areas to grow breadth & depth of packaging development skills.
- Lead & perform tests for primary, secondary, and tertiary package components.
- Qualify packaging specifications and processes in internal & external manufacturing sites by attending, and at times leading, required trials.
- Issue packaging component specifications, & other packaging related documentation
- Support Product Data Management Team to build BOM in PLM system.
- Write & review lab test procedures, scale-up protocols, & specifications needed to support new product launches.
- Attend Technical Reviews to represent technical deliverables for packaging according to the Technical Review process
- Effectively utilize internal & external resources (suppliers, intellectual property, literature) to identify applicable science & technologies to solve new problems.
Experience you’ll bring:
- Fluent in English
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a degree in packaging engineering, packaging science or other relevant engineering disciplines (e.g. Mechanical/Materials) & minimum of 3 years of packaging development experience
- Understanding and experience in primary, secondary, & tertiary packaging development & qualification (product compatibility, shelf-stability, & distribution testing).
- Strong leadership skills to influence cross-functional team members.
- Knowledge of the developing consumer market & of consumer testing techniques, as well as execution of appropriate studies to evaluate product performance during use
- Experience in global new product development & commercialization, including technology trend monitoring, competitive analysis, analytical test methods, & sustainability
- Experience working with & directing vendors or manufacturing partners, particularly involving injection molding, blow molding, & plastic component sub assembly technology
- Ability to apply development methods (such as DOE’s) to solve complex technical problems
