As we continue to expand our R&D efforts, we are seeking a skilled Assistant Technician, Chemistry - Formulation to join our team and support the development of new and improved consumer products.
The Assistant Technician, Chemistry will play a key role in our R&D team, supporting the formulators with formulation development and testing of new & existing products across various categories. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic laboratory environment, collaborating with scientists and engineers to bring innovative ideas to life. The ideal candidate will have a background in chemistry, hands-on experience with formulation techniques, and a passion for creating high-quality consumer products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and work safely following procedures for equipment use, along with product and material shipping, ensuring compliance with internal quality standards and external regulations.
- Lead the material preparation, equipment set-up, batching and processing for assigned bench-top experiments, per Product Developer and Leadership team requests
- Conduct stability testing including pH, viscosity, color, odor, and appearance
- Learn all active methods to conduct product performance testing that support claims substantiation and competitive assessments
- Effectively communicate status and results of product evaluations with project stakeholders
- Maintain accurate, concise, and timely records of all work activity, to support essential reporting led by Engineer, Scientists, and Project Managers.
- Build awareness of our formulation and packaging technologies across Air Care product forms, while keeping a pulse on competitive offerings and performance in related space.
- Help to build and maintain a positive working culture at SCJ, contributing to department and organizational objectives around continuous improvement and inclusion.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
- High school diploma
- 6-month SCJ Chemical Technician Internship Program
- Must be pursuing at least a 2-year technical degree or other related science
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
- Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other related science
- Experience in a laboratory setting, with hands-on experience in formulation development
- Flexibility to work with a team of formulators supporting multiple product platforms
- Strong aptitude in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
- Proven track record of meeting deadlines, with ability to multi-task and manage time effectively
- Knowledge of basic chemistry principles and laboratory techniques, including weighing, mixing, emulsification, and viscosity measurement.
- Able to complete a variety of assignments, and flexible to accommodate significant changes to assigned work routine or schedule
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate technical information clearly and concisely
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Position is part-time, at least 25 hrs per week, during regular business hours, Monday-Friday
- Ability to lift 10 – 40 pounds
- Travel up to 5%
