ABOUT THE ROLE
SC Johnson is searching for an experienced chemist to leverage their interest and subject matter expertise in sustainable/green chemistry. As part of the International Consumer Brands (ICB) Pest Control team, this is an instrumental role that will impact and help lead/drive sustainability efforts in alignment with the business strategy.
As Associate Manager, you will utilize your knowledge to contribute to the successful commercialization of new ideas that drive consumer and corporate value. You will be a cross-functional lead to ensure that new product development initiatives meet internal and external standards for ICB’s Best Control division. You will ensure that chemistry standards are met for Restricted Use Materials (RUMS) for ingredients, Acceptable Chemical Palette (ACP) for fragrances, and Deforestation Standards in addition to compliance with government and regulatory entities, as well as SCJ’s standards. You will develop new products, line extensions, and lead formulation advancements which result in consumer preferred benefits. Additionally, you will develop fragrances and ingredient alternatives with our external partners to meet internal ingredient standards and industry best practices for safety, scientific significance, accuracy, and recordkeeping.
To be successful in this role, you must navigate a cross functional matrix of internal and external business partners such as regulatory and governmental affairs, fragrance houses, procurement, trade compliance, marketing and business insights and analytics. In addition, your curiosity and the ability to solve technical problems related to formulation and manufacturing is critical while providing innovative ideas with a high degree of integrity, speed, and results.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver formulation content for regulatory dossiers in support of New Product development
Prepare samples and track documentation for submissions, evaluations, consumer testing and broader company sharing.
Coordinate outside testing with appropriate resources as required
Meet with fragrance houses and ingredient partners to build relationships and enable effective collaboration
Create fragrance and ingredient improvements that address consumer user criteria, needs, and insights as a member of a cross functional team
Prepare and/or coordinate preparation of fragrance sales samples as needed for agency partners and regional teams.
Set and adhere to project milestones for fragrance and formula development to meet product launch deadlines
Fragrance and ingredient library management and curation to allow for search and reapply in regions.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry or other related science and 6+ years of relevant experience; OR an advanced degree and 4+ years of relevant work experience
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship for full-time employment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Directly related chemistry experience in consumer products (Consumer Packaged Goods) industry
Experience in green or sustainable chemistry
Experience in fragrance development and passion for sensorial attributes.
Possess an understanding of regulatory processes, i.e., EPA registrations, etc.
Knowledge of the product development process and experience related to various formulation and delivery system technologies related to products (e.g., aerosol formulation, emulsion chemistry, gel formulation, polymer chemistry, reaction products, surfactants, solvents, builders)
Understanding of the functional properties, proper use, and the environmental impact of ingredients
Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate accurately and concisely to multiple levels within the company
Computer proficient; SAP, PLM
JOB REQUIREMENTS
This position will be located at Sam’s campus in Mt. Pleasant, WI
Full time, Monday through Friday business hours
Remote work available once a week for eligible employees
Ability to lift 10 – 30 pounds
This role is eligible for domestic relocation
