ABOUT THE ROLE
We are currently searching for an experienced Packaging Engineer to join our North America Consumer Brands team. This role will be accountable for end-to-end projects and qualifying new products/packages, line extensions, and leading technical tasks related to different business needs driven by organizational and market requirements. This position works across North America’s product categories/portfolios and will report to an R&D Manager located at the Racine campus headquarters.
As an Associate Manager, you will contribute to the technical development of new or revised packaging materials & products. You will Lead the end-to-end packaging development projects including primary, secondary, and ecommerce packaging. You will participate on cross-functional teams and provide technical expertise to ensure that the key project objectives are present, applicable, and robust. Our business strategy is focused on growth, business continuity, sustainability and cost saving projects. To ensure success as a member of this team, it is critical to ensure compliance and adherence with technical processes and procedures in place.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with project manager and cross functional team to build project timeline, deliver key milestones, provide input on technical risks and mitigation plans.
Responsible for completing all technical deliverables properly and on-time.
Create robust specifications for packaging components, finished goods, and pallet factors, along with accurate BOM setup.
Develop validation and line qualification plans, perform lab tests, and document results in technical reports.
Provide technical expertise and critical thinking skills to evaluate and correct package-related issues to maintain production schedules and product quality.
Guide, teach or coach junior professionals and participate in the Packaging Community of Practice
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelor’s degree in packaging engineering, packaging science or other relevant engineering discipline and 6+ years of product/packaging development experience, OR Master’s degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Experience and technical competency in primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging design, and qualification
Expertise in multiple packaging disciplines such as aerosols and liquids packaging, dispensing systems, materials, closures, manufacturing line requirements and plastic molding techniques.
Experience in sustainable packaging options for primary and secondary packaging.
Effective communication and storytelling capabilities to a wide range of audiences
Demonstrated problem-solving abilities, including anticipation and communication of technical risks and mitigation plans.
Strategic thinking and action to effectively navigate complex and/or ambiguous situations.
Knowledge of Ecommerce packaging design and qualification.
Knowledge of US DOT Regulations related to the transportation of dangerous goods.
Knowledge of special packs and the warehouse club class of trade.
Experience with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) systems
JOB REQUIREMENTS
This position will be located at our Sam’s campus in Mt. Pleasant, WI
Full Time, Mon – Fri business hours.
Remote work is available once a week for eligible employees.
Ability to lift 10 – 40 pounds.
Up to 10% domestic travel
This role is eligible for domestic relocation.
