The Sr. Director of Risk Management provides strategic leadership and oversight of SC Johnson’s global risk management programs that support the identification, assessment and mitigation of risks that could impact the physical, human and financial assets of the corporation. This highly influential role is responsible for global and local insurance placements, claims management, captive management, loss prevention and risk engineering of our global facilities and manufacturing plants. The role is actively involved in the development and execution of the M&A insurance strategy and collaboration with senior leaders and stakeholders. The Sr. Director of Risk serves on the Captive Board of Directors with oversight for the day-to-day operations of the captive, investment portfolio and management team, while ensuring the continued financial strength of the captive. This role requires a strategic leader capable of building strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external vendors to effectively advance the program's objectives.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee the placement of approximately 20 global and domestic insurance policies across the enterprise, partnering closely with brokers and carriers to ensure proper coverage, cost efficiency and strategic use of captive insurance company.
- Interact and guide foreign subsidiaries on insurance related matters, claims and risk assessments.
- Develop insurance standards incorporated into global and domestic contracts to ensure that third-party vendors, suppliers, and manufacturers meet the company’s requirements for risk protection.
- Work closely with internal and external safety and engineering experts to recommend loss prevention strategies for over 25 manufacturing plants and facilities globally, including providing input on capital expenditures to support risk reduction.
- Lead claims administration and resolution across all insurance lines (domestic and international), in collaboration with Legal, HR, Safety/Health/Environmental, Third Party Claims Administrator, .and Supply Chain to effectively resolve claims. Liaison with external vendor partners to negotiate and manage service agreements with third parties.
- Management and oversight of the Captive insurance subsidiary, including coordination with the captive manager, investment banker, and other key vendors to support the objectives of the parent company.
- Support M&A activities and due diligence for new acquisitions, including analyzing need for representation and warranty insurance (RWI); lead the placement of RWI domestically or abroad; assess risks, loss prevention, and ensure proper commercial insurance coverages are in place for newly acquired subsidiaries
- Collaborate with senior executives across multiple functions on risk related projects/issues (Legal, Procurement, IT, HR, Logistics, Global Trade, M&A, etc).
- Develop and deliver internal training and education on insurance and risk-related topics
- Participate and consult with various stakeholders and subsidiaries on special projects to mitigate and transfer risks
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, Finance, Business Administration or a related field
- Minimum 12 years experience in corporate risk management and oversight of complex multi-national insurance programs for a global organization
- People management experience
- At least 1 professional certification such as ARM, CPCU, CRM
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
- MBA or one or more risk management certifications preferred
- Experience managing a captive insurance program
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate interactions with senior executives and external brokers/insurance carriers. High level of discretion is required given access to sensitive and confidential information.
- Experience leading the placement of M&A insurance, such as Reps and Warranty or Warranty and Indemnity
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Full-time in office 4 days a week, with option of 1 day remote per week
- Travel >10% domestically and internationally
- Ability to flex hours to support global teams before or after normal business hours
- Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- This role is eligible for domestic relocation
