The Associate Manager, Development Engineer Packaging is a champion of new growth and expansion opportunities forInternational Consumer Brands.Responsibilities include packaging development, feasibility assessment, and application of commercially available solutions to deliver new products. Additionally, you will contribute to the technical development & qualification of new or revised packaging materials & products.
The Associate Manager is accountable to work efficiently with internal and external partners, staying abreast of latest technology and trends within range of portfolio activity. You will participateon cross-functional teams and provide technical expertise to ensure that the key project objectives are present, applicable, and robust.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Bring curiosity and bias for action to assigned projects, contributing packaging technology options that fulfil consumer needs thru product design to enable SCJ’s business growth goals.
Collaborate with Procurement to identify right external partnerships (i.e. 3PMs, suppliers) to leverage their expertise and stock available packaging options and development capabilities.
Demonstrate creativity in approach to identifying and evaluating new packaging materials and components that unlock speed in execution.
Provide expertise in areas of package design, material selection, performance characterization methods, and iterative prototyping to support test and learn model of NPD.
Lead outside vendors & design partners to assure the timely delivery of projectmilestones, including prototype samples, product qualification and scale-up activities.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in relevant categories for SCJ’s strategic growth businesses, including sustainability.
Collaborate with project manager and cross functional team to build project timeline, deliver key milestones, provide input on technical risks and mitigation plans.
Develop validation and line qualification plans, perform lab tests, and document results in technical reports.
Model R&D functional skills including effective communication, quality in design, regulatory compliance, product safety, and scientific rigor
Demonstrate ability to manage ambiguity & uncertainty across range of development activity, applying strategic thinking and business acumen for informed decision making.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging or other relevant engineering disciplines (e.g., Mechanical, Material Science, etc.) and a minimum of8years of packaging development experience, ora master’s degreewith at least4years relevant work experience.
- Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in Brazil.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
- The ideal candidate has a passion for sustainability and an interest in packaging solutions that maximize recyclability, recycled content, virgin plastic reduction, and minimizes negative environmental impacts of our products and materials selection.
- Expertise in multiple packaging disciplines such as rigid plastics, dispensing systems, flexible materials, closures, manufacturing line requirements and plastic molding techniques.
- Proven record of project team contribution on complex technical challenges, including anticipation and communication of technical risks and mitigation plans.
- Strategic thinking and action to effectively navigate complex and/or ambiguous situations.
- Applies product development methods and tools such as prioritization matrices, value mapping, FMEA, and experimental design to deliver against aligned product performance criteria.
- Excellent communicator with experience presenting ideas with courage and conviction to management.
- A natural tendency to investigate (tinker) on ways to solve new problems, or find alternative solutions on older challenges.
- Ability to coach and mentor junior members of the organization.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Position is Full-Time, regular business hours, Monday-Friday
- Office work environment: Remote work available once a week for eligible employees
- Travel up to 15%
- This position is eligible for domestic relocation
